Rihanna finally blesses us with her first baby bump photo on Instagram
To announce the imminent arrival of their first child, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky had the world at their fingertips. They could have opted for a joint magazine cover or a highly stylized Instagram photo shoot, as Beyoncè did. They could have done like Kirsten Dunst and popped Rihanna in a spread with her baby bump nonchalantly making her mid-bed debut in Rodarte. I’m willing to believe they could have even gotten President Joe Biden to announce it at this point.
Instead, showing exactly why we love Rihanna so much, the singer opted to have a photographer meet her on a New York street, where she and Rocky posed together in images shared by the media to break the news. (then millions of enthusiastic fans). Even more amazingly, neither Rihanna nor Rocky bothered to post the photos to their own Instagram grids, which makes me wonder if this simple, understated, perfect gesture could kick off the era where people don’t post their achievements on Instagram as if it were a CV for your life.
Luckily, the lack of a post didn’t mean Rihanna was going to hide her pregnancy journey — or surely be an incredible maternity wardrobe — from now on. In fact, she’s now shared her own pregnancy announcement in the most Rihanna way possible: through a baby snap.
The first image the singer posted shows her standing in a bathroom wearing a sports swimsuit pulled up to show off her bump. She captioned it, “how the gang stopped at Black History Month.”
The next three slides are from her original ad, showing Rocky kissing her head in a photo – the first couple photo she posted of her musician boyfriend on her grid – before a close-up of her belly and, finally, a gorgeous photo of her standing alone (which was hilariously one of the most shared images in the entire ad, because despite Rocky being famous, talented and stylish, it’s Rihanna is having a baby! Rihanna.)
