PHOTO REPORT: Disneyland Resort 5/31/22 (Patriotic Food Review, Paradise Pier Hotel Update, Boba Fett, Fantasmic! and Fireworks)
Hi, hi, ho! We headed to the Disneyland Resort to catch Fantasmic! again, and spent the day exploring parks and even a hotel. So join us for this latest photo essay from the happiest place on Earth.
California Disney Adventure
We started our day with a bit of shopping, as always. This Moana doll is the newest in the Disney Designer Collection.
With the start of Pride Month, Pride merchandising is in full swing. And this rainbow Stitch plush is the latest addition to the collection.
We’ve also found a jersey for the kids to celebrate their love of Marvel.
And for adults, this gorgeous dress is inspired by Jessica Rabbit.
Or, for the accessory lovers, this new Dooney & Bourke bag collection features The Rescuers.
After all that shopping, we were ready for breakfast. The cappuccino cart’s chorizo breakfast burrito hit the mark. You can watch our full video review on our YouTube channel, or by clicking on the video below:
While we dined on the pier, we saw the Disney Concierge Cast Members hard at work cleaning up Paradise Bay.
And we could also see Spider-Man swinging through the air from this vantage point.
Of course, it made us want to head to the Avengers Campus right after breakfast. We immediately met Scarlet Witch.
What a great day for a visit to the park.
It sure was hot, though. A trip to the splashing falls of Grizzly River Run wouldn’t hurt in this heat.
Mr. Potato Head has been unveiled once again after being behind the curtains for the past few weeks.
We’ve spotted some new construction walls here near the bay, though we’re not sure what’s going on inside.
The walls came down from the front arch of The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. However, some walls remain even closer to the attraction’s entrance.
Just down the road, more walls have been erected at the old Seaside Souvenirs.
We say old because although the signs on the walls of the building still state the name of the souvenir stand, the verbiage has been removed from the large display boards on both sides of the shop.
Cast Members can be seen here planning the current project. A new park entrance will be opened here to welcome guests coming from Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.
Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel
We decided to head over to Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel to take a look before many theme changes began. The hotel is expected to be redesigned with Pixar art in the near future.
The classic Surfer Goofy statue is to be replaced with the new theme, but he’s still standing and smiling for now.
There aren’t really a lot of themes to replace at the hotel in common areas, but the Surfside Lounge has a bit more than other spaces.
While we were at Mickey in Paradise, we noticed that a new set of Collectabuilds Park Pals have arrived in the store.
With construction going on as the pool was recently renovated, there are still walls of construction and they have some super cute artwork.
All of these porthole characters are from the 1937 short, “Hawaiian Holiday.” Goofy can be seen chasing a menacing crab.
Pluto also got tangled up with the crab in the cartoon.
Minnie danced the hula while Mickey, who is not pictured here, played the guitar.
The two sea life creatures that aggravated Pluto while on vacation have their own window.
And finally, Donald relaxes on his floating horse.
The theme of the hotel may be sparse, but the wall art is beautiful in the hotel. Here, on the stairs, framed sketches of the short film “Hawaiian Holiday”.
On level 3, chairs are arranged for the observation of fireworks.
One of the last remnants of the hotel’s original aesthetic also features the original design of Disney’s California Adventure. This notice board is above the emergency exit doors below the pool deck.
The Sand Bar, the pool bar at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, is closed.
From the 15th floor, we have a fantastic, albeit obstructed, view of Disney California Adventure.
Cars Land and Pixar Pier are the only areas visible from the guest hallway.
Back in the parks, it’s Disneyland time.
It’s a hot summer day and we’re ready for a cool, sweet treat. This Rocket Soda is definitely a pick, but not necessarily something we would choose again. You can watch our full review on YouTube or by clicking the video below:
And we didn’t stop there. We had to pair the Rocket Soda with the Rocket Sundae which was much nicer and for which we will definitely be returning. You can watch our full review on YouTube or by clicking the video below:
And there, in New Orleans Square, we saved the best for last by unearthing French Market’s amazing Pirate P-arr-fait.
The basis of this dessert is a baba – a yeast roll soaked in rum syrup. I didn’t think we would enjoy something like this as much as we did, but it was fantastic.

Boba Fett recently came to Batuu, and we couldn’t resist honoring the Daimyo of Mos Espa with a portrait.
His right-hand man, Fennec Shand, was also walking around to make sure everything was in order for Fett’s visit.
Soon it was time to line up for Fantasmic! These folks on America’s rivers waited several hours before they were taken out of their seats to make room for the meal package seats.
The area certainly filled up quickly as show time approached. We waited a total of four hours in our seat, which is longer than the Cast Members were happy with. But everyone who walked away had their seats taken, so we just camped out with the crowd.
And what a beautiful night it was for the wait. We saw the moon rise just over Splash Mountain, although a large tree got in the way. Never mind.
It was worth the wait to rewatch this show. After seeing it on opening night, we couldn’t wait to go back. It’s just so good!
After the first Fantasmic! show, guests are asked to stay in their seats to watch the Disneyland Forever fireworks spectacular. We saw the fireworks erupt above a silhouette of Big Thunder Mountain, with the same projections of the castle and main street broadcast on Fantasmic! water screens.
And our final farewell shot for today is the finale of Disneyland Forever, where the whole country is lit up with fireworks. Big Thunder Mountain looks great!
Well, that’s all about us here at Disneyland. We are happy that you accompanied. Be sure to leave a comment below, letting us know what you think of the photo story. We will see you very soon!
