A Montgomery County, Va., school board member stormed out of a recent board meeting after a parent used photos from the member’s personal Facebook page to illustrate his hypocrisy about masking.

“Senate Bill 739, as you probably know, is going to be signed into law very soon, so we’re taking the power away from you and handing it over to the parents as it should be,” the parent said during the meeting. “And it’s very concerning that you’re taking the power away from the parents.”

The parent raised concerns about the incessant school mask mandates at the Montgomery County School Board in Virginia, alleging hypocrisy by board members and accusing them of unwillingness to comply with recent executive orders.

“When you said, introducing the public address comment, you said now was the time to hear from students, staff and community members. You didn’t mention parents. Not at all. everything,” she said.

“We sat here last year and listened to you guys talk about Governor Northam’s executive orders and how we should follow them,” she said, adding, “Here’s a governor taking office, but yet you won’t follow his orders,” in reference to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s current executive order abolishing school mask mandates statewide.

Video of the incident, shared in a tweet by radio host Clay Travis, follows the parent’s speech as she pulls evidence from Facebook to illustrate a board member’s hypocrisy over the masking.

“Here’s a picture of you right here on Facebook with a crowd of people without masks,” the mother said, pointing to a picture posted on her smartphone.

The board member pictured was quick to put an end to the parents’ accusations, saying her words were ineffective and defamatory as she claimed she was not using her time to focus on issues around the children.

“If you’re going to sit there and disparage a member of our school board, then you can sit down,” the board member said.

The pro-mask council member requested that a police officer escort the parent out of the building as she continued to fire her accusations, but another member intervened on the parent’s behalf before she could be evicted.

“She should be allowed to say her peace,” the member said. “I had to listen to people come and criticize me.”

After getting into a heated exchange with his colleague who rushed to the defense of the disgruntled parent, the pro-mask board member stormed out of the meeting and time was called to conclude the exchange .

Support for the parent poured in, with many calling out the council member’s alleged hypocrisy while praising the parent for standing up for the children of the district.

“This is exceptional,” tweeted former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman.

“Don’t get mad at football moms,” former TV writer Caleb Bacon wrote in a separate tweet.

“This is incredibly arrogant behavior on the part of this school board member,” tweeted Sen. Jim Perry, Republican Majority Whip in the North Carolina Senate. “The parent shouldn’t have been interrupted.”

Several other social media users called the relative a “legend”.
