iCloud Shared Photo Library is still available this year; New “Clean Power Charging” for iPhone • iPhone in Canada Blog

Apple today released iOS 16, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16, along with macOS 12.6, iPadOS 15.7, and iOS 15.7 for users of older devices.

The iOS 16 press release also reiterates what the company’s website said: iCloud Shared Photo Library is delayed to “later this year.” The feature allows up to 6 family members to collaborate, share and enjoy a separate iCloud Library.

Apple also said “Clean Energy Charging” will make its US debut, noting that it “aims to reduce the iPhone’s carbon footprint by optimizing charge times when the network uses more power sources. own”. It’s unclear if this means Apple will work with specific utilities to determine clean power source hours, to enforce optimized charging for the iPhone, such as when solar or wind power sources power the networks.

It’s unclear if this feature will ever expand outside of the United States, to other countries like Canada, which has plenty of clean hydroelectricity in some provinces.

For the universal smart home standard Matter, iOS 16 will support this “later this fall”.
