A contract, totaling $11,964,432.87, was awarded on June 9, 2022 to LS Black Constructors to construct the FY2022 Transitional Training Brigade Headquarters Project at Fort McCoy . Construction operations began in August 2022.

The construction location is directly across from where the same contractor constructed two new Transient Training Troop Barracks buildings in the same block.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers, which manages the project, the brigade headquarters project is based on the denser, more consolidated footprints of the Fort McCoy Troop Housing Area Development Plan, which states that ” fewer multi-storey buildings allow facilities/functions to be installed”. closer together, allowing for a more walkable training environment, while saving money on utilities. »

The smaller footprint of the Brigade Headquarters building plan builds a less impermeable surface, which generates less stormwater runoff that requires fewer stormwater management devices and provides additional cost savings. The floor plan is also based on the standard “Operational Readiness Training Complex” design and additional area has been included in this project to allow stair and elevator access to the second floor.

Overall, eight new buildings are planned for the entire 1600 block, said Fort McCoy senior planner Brian Harrie of the Fort McCoy Public Works Branch. The plan is to construct four barracks buildings, the three brigade headquarters buildings of 20,000 square feet, and a 160-room officers’ quarters.

“Block 1600 will be completely transformed when all of this construction is done years from now,” Harrie said. “Block 1600 is also an ideal location for this transformation, as it places these facilities for transient training troops in close proximity to the post’s service-related facilities, such as Fort McCoy Commissary, Fort McCoy Exchange and McCoy’s Community. Center.”

Fort McCoy’s executive summary, available on the installation’s website, www.home.army.mil/mccoy, also shows that the installation is making continuous improvements to provide a plethora of training capabilities to service members.

“Over the past decade, Fort McCoy has experienced unprecedented facility modernization, training area development and expansion, increased training and customer support capacity, and improved quality opportunities. of life,” the summary reads.
