“Beijing Janata Party”: BJP trolled Noida airport photo

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Noida International Airport in Jewar on Thursday, he said it would be a logistics gateway to northern India.

The Modi government and the BJP have touted the Noida airport project as a major achievement ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections in Uttar Pradesh. However, the project quickly became the subject of social media trolls. Fact-checkers claimed government Twitter accounts, Union ministers and BJP leaders tweeted a video from Noida Airport that used an image of Beijing Daxing International Airport.

While the video was deleted by the MyGov Hindi Twitter account on Friday, the trolling continued. On Saturday, Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the opposition to Rajya Sabha, tweeted that the BJP had turned into the “Beijing Janata Party”.

Kharge wrote: “In Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP government lets China build villages. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government presents the Chinese airport as its own. In Ladakh, the government surrenders and cedes our territory to the Chinese.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav was quoted by Republic Television saying, “This government is incredible. To show his evolution, they were showing photos of flyovers over Kolkata, factories in America, now he shares photos of airports in neighboring countries that have done the work of settling villages on our borders. The development of BJP is just an advertisement.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi shared a tweet from a Chinese journalist on the matter. Speaking to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, Chaturvedi wrote: “When Indian Minister of I&B is also in the same grid as users of fake pictures. Feed hostile nations to make us look foolish. Jewar Airport is important to India and the UP, but using these images taken from the Chinese airport is embarrassing.
